The APL of The Heroes of Starsong Tower is 8, so Gaw adds 7 more d6s (it’s HD and Con bonus too) to gain more hit points to be really hardy for adventuring. Levelling up a sidekick is as easy as consulting the sidekick class advancement chart and adding more Hit Dice (HD). A 1st level sidekick has all the statistics outlined in it’s stat block, including special attacks (like the cockatrice’s petrifying bite). The starting level of the side kick is equal to the Average Party Level (APL) of the adventuring party. Gaw the Cockatrice is going to be a warrior sidekick.Įxpert sidekicks, left to right: A tortle, a winged kobold, and a kenku. Since a cockatrice doesn’t have a language it can speak in its stat block the expert and spellcasting classes were out. Multiclassing between classes isn’t an option for sidekicks. A creature can be from any WofC published book. The first and most important part for creating a sidekick is selecting a creature with a Challenge Rating (CR) of 1/2 or less.
